The Circle of Life
A special day it was—
Brimming with joy and laughter,
Dreams by the dozen,
Wishes and blessings galore
A day of celebration.
A couple of years passed,
The day came again.
Our love had deepened,
And so had we.
We were four in number
A special day of love and togetherness.
Decades passed.
We grew older, gracefully.
It was just us this time
Awaiting phone calls,
And handwritten cards.
Yet, near or far,
We celebrated.
In a few years,
We grew in number once again,
And the wishes doubled.
Two more special days
Etched themselves into our hearts.
The more, the merrier
The celebration bloomed.
After a few more years,
Life changed again
One final time.
But this time...
We reduced in number.
Still, the day returned,
And I longed to celebrate
Even in your absence.
For that was a day
That deserved to be honored.
A day that gave me you
The love of my life,
My soul’s companion.
Today, after four decades,
I'm still celebrating our special day.
But here’s the beautiful twist:
This time, I shall have a hand to hold
When I cut the cake
A tiny little hand,
Clasping mine with trust and wonder.
A blessing
That has journeyed from the stars
To fill your place
Our dear granddaughter.
So,
This time I shall celebrate
With a whole heart—
A joyful one.
For ours
Was a life well lived
A love well shared.
And the memories we made
Will echo
Through lifetimes to come.
Happy Anniversary, My Love.

Author's Note:
This poem is a tribute to my dear father-in-law, a testament to a love so genuine and true, it has withstood the tests of time and thrived for decades. In a world where such enduring love has become a rarity, their story is a beacon of hope. I believe stories like theirs deserve to be told out loud, to remind us all of what it means to love, to commit, and to grow old together. Much love and respect to this remarkable couple.
Loved this so much!
