Parrot Talk

Ah!
Let them talk.
As long as they desire.
To their heart’s content.
Let them talk.

You shine as bright as Orion—
They’ll call you a feeble flicker,
A dying flame.

You soar as high as the eagle—
They’ll call you a meek flutter,
A sparrow.

You speak with strength and clarity—
They’ll call you ' Ms. Know-It-All',
A show-off.

You have a thriving career,
A dream job—
They’ll call you selfish,
The “unavailable” parent.

You dare to pursue your passion—
They’ll call you incapable and ask,
“No six-figure salary?”

You choose to be a devoted homemaker—
They’ll call you dependent and scoff,
“What a waste of a degree.”

You have the courage to be different—
They’ll call you insane,
Odd one out!

No matter what you do,
Or don’t—
You’ll never be good enough
For them.

They’ll still criticize.
They’ll still mock.
And ridicule.

But...
You are left with a choice:
To notice them—
Or to ignore them completely,
As if they never existed.

Do not waste a minute responding.
Let your actions speak for themselves.
That will always suffice.

Do not confine your growth to their boundaries.
Break free—
And set your own limits.

As for them...
Just
Let them be.
Let
them talk.
’Cause that’s all they can ever do

Author's Note:

This one’s for anyone who’s ever felt judged no matter what they chose. I’ve been there too. Guilty as charged, both as the judged —and at times, the judge. But growth begins with awareness, and freedom with letting go.
