Behold, My Dear—It’s a Trap!

Behold!
Don't grow up, my dear—
It's a trap!
Stay little, stay close,
Safe in my arms.

For...

 I fear your future—

A world artificial,
Driven by anything but human.
The planet we leave you,
Its riches stripped,
Its resources long depleted.

Surrounded by humans
Who have chosen screens over souls,
Gadgets over partners,
People with no time—
Except for screen time.

A world where love and care
Are relics of the past,
Where empathy and compassion
Are too ancient to recall.

A world where words are scarce,
Or perhaps never even there.
A world so cold,
So rigid,
Where human connections are frigid.

I fear we may leave you alone
In this dark, dreary world,
Never seeing you thrive,
Never seeing you survive.

Yet, I hope—

That you will be the light,
The change,
Ushering in love and compassion,
Warming hearts,
Reminding the world
Of the kindness
Long lost and forgotten.

Alas!

How I wish I could be there,
To watch with pride,
With tear-filled eyes
And a heart so full,
That has loved you all along the way,
Wished you well,
Only to see you give away
All that you received—
Making the world
A better place to live in.
