Metamorphosis

If you ever had a chance to say something to a younger version of you,

what would that be??

Here is mine.

A short story crafted with an extra scoop of self-love that would resonate

with your little ones and make you reminisce about those good old days at school.

METAMORPHOSIS

"Since, this has turned out to be an impromptu speech, I would like to start with a story", I said, addressing the gathering.

I paused for a bit and added,

"Uh..A short one, I promise!"

I winked at those innocent little faces in the audience who looked up with wide eyes filled with curiosity.

Their faces lit up with the brightest of smiles as I continued.

"There was this little girl who was helping her mother water the plants in the balcony.

Young and bubbling with energy, she was observing things with keen eyes brimming with wonder.

The mom watched over her smart little girl and smiled. Suddenly, the girl exclaimed, "Eww Mamma! There's a worm in here".

Mamma turned around to take a glance and said, "Yes, my dear. That's a caterpillar. Isn't it beautiful".

"Ugh! I don't think so, Mamma. It's wiggly and looks creepy", replied the girl, making a face at the caterpillar. Her mom smiled and replied, "Okay, my darling. Let me plan a fun task for you"

The girl seemed all excited and chirped happily, "What is it, Mamma?"

"I would like you to observe this little fella for the next few days and make a note of whatever you see", said her mom

"Ohhh no, Mamma! This is going to be boring", whined the little girl

"No, my dear. I promise it won't be ", her mom winked.

So, over the next few days, the girl continued to observe the little caterpillar every day.

He seemed his usual self, crawling over the leaves and didn't seem to mind the girl a bit.

One day, the girl called out to her mom, " Mamma! Mamma! Did you see this?"

Her mom rushed to the balcony and looked at her daughter. She was pointing at the plant which had housed the caterpillar.

"He doesn't seem okay, Mamma. He has something weird growing over him. Could he be really sick?" she asked, worried.

"Ah! No, my darling. He is perfectly fine. He is just growing.

Watch over him closely from now on", she hinted and left the little girl confused.

The little girl watched over the little creature day and night and prayed that he should be okay soon.

Then one fine day, the weird shell covering him broke off.

The little girl watched spellbound, gaping in utter bewilderment. What she saw next took her breath away! The shell fell apart, and a pretty little creature emerged from within. It had a pair of wings, a myriad of bright and attractive hues. It fluttered its fancy wings and flew across the balcony, hopping from one flower to another. It was a sight to behold!

The little girl squealed in excitement and called to her mother once again, "Mamma, you've got to see this. Hurry!" "Ah! What a pretty butterfly that is!," exclaimed her mom looking at the butterfly. "Yes, Mamma. I love it," replied the girl, gleefully clapping her hands.

"Remember, darling, it was the caterpillar that had transformed into this pretty little creature today. Every creation that you see is beautiful and perfect in its own way. The little caterpillar had always known that one day, he would transform into a pretty butterfly,"

" And so, my dear ones, whatever you see yourself as today, just remember that...

You are unique.

You are truly special.

You have been created by a pair of gifted hands from Nature with utmost perfection.

If you see yourself as a caterpillar, remember your velvety coat Is your cloak of honor.

Wear it with pride!

Ah!

My darling little butterflies, remember you are beautiful.

You have been created with a purpose on earth

And it's about time you learn to give back to nature

Flutter away, adding a dash of color, a bit of life and trying to ward off the dullness and the gloom, everywhere you fly.

So, my dears,

Let's live.

Since we live, but once.

And let live.

With lots of love,

Your senior from the 2Ks".

I ended my speech and turned to look back at the crowd. Right there, amidst the little humans who broke into an applause, sat the 'little ME' beaming and clapping her hands gleefully.

She looked at me with happy eyes that read, "Thank you. I really needed to hear this today."

And... That made my day!
